HOUSTON, Texas - Tyler Theriot tossed a strong seven innings and the offense scored a combined eight runs in the final three frames, as the Nicholls State University baseball team defeated HBU, 11-1, via run-rule Friday afternoon at Husky Field.
Theriot limited HBU to four hits and struck out five to improve to 4-2 on the season. Nicholls (16-11, 5-2 SLC) had nine hits with
Alec Paz and
Edgar Alvarez posted two-hit games.
Nicholls also received some help from HBU (9-21, 3-4 SLC) as the Huskies were charged with five errors, resulting in four unearned runs. The HBU pitching staff also dished out six walks, four wild pitches and three hit-by-pitches.
HBU scored in the first inning before Nicholls answered with a two-run second.
Hunter LeBlanc drove in a run on a groundout and
Jaden Collura scored on a wild pitch.
After Alvarez had an RBI single in the third, the Colonels scored four runs in the fifth thanks to four HBU errors. Nicholls then scored two in the sixth and two in the seventh to put the run-rule into play. Theriot finished his second consecutive complete game by retiring the Huskies in order.
