Theriot continues dominance as Colonels clinch series vs. NSU

THIBODAUX, La. - Tyler Theriot turned in another outstanding performance for the Nicholls State University baseball pitching staff and the offense doubled up Northwestern State in hits, as the Colonels secured a series victory with a 6-0 shutout Friday night on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.

Theriot (5-2) threw eight inning in the win, allowing three singles and a double while striking out five. He lowered his league best ERA to 2.15 and opponent batting average to .182 for his fifth win of the season.

Nicholls (19-13, 7-4 SLC) scored right out of the gate against Johnathan Harmon, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Alec Paz doubled in a run and another crossed the plate on a Garrett Felix single.

The Colonels then received RBI singles by Edgar Alvarez in the third and Jayden Kay in the fifth. Alvarez led Nicholls on offense, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

After a Xane Washington sacrifice fly made it 5-0 in the seventh, Austin Cain followed with an RBI single to make the final.

Northwestern State (15-18, 5-6 SLC) got two of their hits in the third, but both came with two outs. The Demons biggest threat to score was in the seventh after Bailyn Sorensen doubled with one out, but Theriot retired the next two to maintain the shutout. He ended his night with a 1-2-3 eighth.
