Colonels extend winning streak to five with 5-2 victory over Lamar

THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University baseball team received a strong outing from Josh Mancuso and the offense capitalized off of Lamar miscues as the Colonels won their fifth consecutive game, defeating the Cardinals 5-2 Tuesday night on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.

Mancuso allowed two runs in the first before settling in, throwing seven innings for the victory. Nicholls (14-9) tied the game in the fourth thanks to an error and a wild pitch, then took the lead in the fifth after a sacrifice fly and a 2-run home run by Edgar Alvarez

David Vial Jr. picked up the save after throwing two shutout innings. He gave up two hits in the eighth before ending the frame with a strikeout. He then struck out the first two batters in the final inning before ending the game on a foul out.

Nicholls totaled six hits in the win with Hunter LeBlanc going 2-for-4 with a double. LeBlanc scored the first run for the Colonels when Lamar sailed a throw from short on a grounder, then Basiel Williams came home on a wild pitch.

In the fifth, Parker Coddou singled and stole second before scoring on a Garrett Felix sacrifice fly. Felix reached base on the play as LU's Tanner Wilson dropped the ball in centerfield. Two batters later, Alvarez crushed an 0-1 pitch over the right field wall for his fifth homer of the season.

Ryan Snell led LU with two hits, including a 2-run single in the first.  Landon Odom took the loss despite allowing no earned runs in 1.1 innings of relief.
