Riley returned to Richmond after two years with Cliff Ellis at Coastal Carolina. He helped the Chanticleers to back-to-back regular season championships and back-to-back NIT appearances. The program set a school record with 28 wins in both the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons. Coastal Carolina put together a 22-game winning streak during Riley's time with the program. The Chanticleers finished as the runner-up at the Big South Tournament Championships in both the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
