Andri Bjornsson earned his second top 10 finish of the fall
Final Results HUNTSVILLE, Texas – After weather delayed competition on Monday resulting in an 18-plus hole day on Tuesday, the Nicholls State University men's golf team carded a 298 and a 299 in its final two rounds to finish seventh out of nine teams in the Sam Houston State Harold Funston Invitational at Ravens Nest Golf Club.
The Colonels shed three strokes off of their first round score for their second 18, but added one more in their final round to finish with a 898 for the tournament. Nicholls was in fifth place after the first round, but were passed by Western Texas Community College (891) and Texas-Pan American (894).
Nicholls was paced by senior
Andri Bjornsson, who improved each round, firing a 74 and 72 before finishing up with an even par-71. Bjornsson matched his best three-round score with a 217, which gave the Iceland native his second top 10 individual finish in as many tournaments this fall as he tied for eighth place with a 4-over.
Albert Badosa-Soler earned a top 20 finish, carding a 223. Badosa shot 75s in his first two rounds before a 2-over 73 moved him up to a tie for 17th. Badosa had the third best showing in the field on par 5s, shooting a -5 under which was aided by the Colonels' lone eagle of the tournament.
Josh Fullilove finished with a 229 (76-76-77),
Lucas Sapin shot a 234 (76-80-78) and
Jamison Thomassee had a 239 (81-75-83).
Host Sam Houston repeated as champions, winning with a three-round score of 851. The Bearkats' Zach Cabra won the tournament with a 3-under.
The golf team will return to action on Oct. 20 in the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech.
