Jordan McCoy had eight saves and maintained a 3.57 GPA as a senior to earn all-academic honors
THIBODAUX, La. – For the second consecutive season, the Nicholls State University baseball team had two players rewarded for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom, as
Tyler Duplantis and
Jordan McCoy were named to the Southland Conference All-Academic second team the league announced today.
Nicholls and Central Arkansas had two selections each, as Lamar and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi led all schools with four honorees. UCA's Forrestt Allday was named the league's student-athlete of the year holding a 3.57 grade point average and being a four-time member of the dean's list.
Wrapping up his final season as a Colonel, McCoy finished the year with a 3.57 GPA as a senior in general studies, while Duplantis, who is pursuing a degree in marketing, had a 3.01 grade point average.
In his first season on the field after transferring from Loyola in New Orleans, Duplantis finished eighth in the Southland in batting with a .330 average while seeing time at both first and third base. Along with leading the team in average, he paced the team in hits (62) and produced a .995 fielding percentage with just two errors on the year. At the plate, he tied for the team lead with
Matt Richard in multi-hit games with 19, including three five-hit contests.
In his two seasons, McCoy was the go-to closer for the Nicholls baseball team as he finished with 15 career saves after earning a career-high eight in 2013. With a 2-2 overall record and 3.93 earned run average, the Hattiesburg, Miss., native appeared in 30 games which tied for the league lead among pitchers while finishing fifth individual in total saves.
