Nicholls football signed five recruits for 2013
THIBODAUX, La. – With less than 100 days until its season opener, the Nicholls football program expanded its 2013 roster as fourth-year head coach Charlie Stubbs announced Tuesday the signing of five recruits.
Included in the class are three players from FBS programs, one junior college transfer and one high school recruit. Joining the Colonels are offensive linemen Nicholas Chartain (New Orleans, La.),
Ashton Duhe (Norco, La.) and
Noland Sharpe (St. Rose, La.), punter/kicker
Conner Fryoux (Gonzales, La.) and cornerback
Ronald Tyler (Pittsburg, Pa.).
Chartain, a 6-4, 325 pound transfer from the University of Memphis, lettered two seasons for the Tigers at left guard. A two-star recruit out of Desire Street Academy in New Orleans, Chartain recorded over 100 pancake blocks in his final two seasons in high school and was named Louisiana Football Coaches Association All-State second team as a senior. While at Desire Street, he also lettered in baseball and track.
Duhe, a 6-3, 300 pound transfer from SMU, saw action in five games last season as a sophomore, including a start against UTEP. A native of Norco, La., Duhe prepped at Destrehan High where he was rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com after being named all-state twice. As a senior, Duhe allowed no sacks and had 23 pancake blocks. A four-year starter, he helped lead the Wildcats to a pair of state titles.
Rounding out the offensive lineman is another Destrehan product, Sharpe, a 6-2, 260 pound guard. Sharpe was a three-year starter for the Wildcats, earning first-team all-metro and all-district three times. Sharpe is Nicholls' third nationally-rated recruit on the offensive line, earning a two-star rating on Scout.com.
Fryoux, a 5-10, 180 pound transfer from ULM, lettered two seasons for the Warhawks after redshirting in 2010. At ULM, he recorded 17 punts for 618 yards in his two seasons and was named to the Sun Belt All-Freshman team in 2011. Before going to ULM, Fryoux lettered two years at Dutchtown High where he earned first-team all-district and academic all-state.
Tyler, a 5-11, 180 pound defensive back, joins the Colonels after playing two seasons at Snow College where he started all 22 games. A native of Pittsburg, Tyler recorded six interceptions, three forces fumbles and blocked two punts, leading the Badgers to a pair of top 10 rankings in the NJCAA. At Willow High, he was a first-team all-district honoree and also ran track and played basketball.
