FRISCO, Texas – A pair of senior Nicholls State University men's tennis players have been named Southland Conference All-Academic as
Damian Despotovski earned first-team honors while
Roy Knight was tabbed second-team, the league office announced Thursday.
Despotovski, who helped lead Nicholls to consecutive postseason berths, had five victories on the year – all at No. 1 - including two in conference play. In the Southland Conference Tournament against UNO, the native of Skopje, Macedonia closed out his career with a three-set win in the top position. Despotovski also won two doubles matches in conference and had six victories overall. A finance major, Despotovski posts a 3.227 grade point average.
Knight was one of three Colonels to go 4-1 in conference play, earning second-team All-Southland in singles. On the year, he finished with a 9-6 record, playing primarily at the No. 4 position. Six of his victories came in straight sets while four of his losses were in three sets. Knight, a native of Bodmin, England, also had a strong season in doubles, going 7-7 with a 3-1 record in the SLC. In the classroom, he has a 3.204 GPA in marketing.
