The Colonel Football team will try to resume activities on Thursday
Colonel Football Suspends Activities
THIBODAUX, La. – With Louisiana under a state of emergency due to Tropical Storm Isaac, the Nicholls State University football team has suspended all team activities through Wednesday.
On Sunday night, Nicholls issued a Phase III Alert, resulting in the cancelation of classes and the closing of the university for Monday and Tuesday. University officials will make a decision later in the week on whether to resume normal activities.
“It's very unfortunately to have to miss a few days of preparation, but the safety of our players comes first,” said Nicholls football head coach Charlie Stubbs. “If the storm passes and we're able to get everyone back safely, then we'll definitely try to practice on Thursday. But until then, there isn't much we can do.”
Several of the local players have already left campus to be with their families.
The Colonels are slated to take on Oregon State on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 2 p.m. to kickoff its 2012 campaign. The team is scheduled to fly out of New Orleans on Friday morning, pending the weather.
