Philip Lyons and Jeremy HIll were both named second team All-Southland
FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls State University senior designated hitter
Jeremy Hill and sophomore second baseman
Philip Lyons were named second team All-Southland Conference the league office announced this afternoon. It is the third consecutive year the Colonels have had at least two players earn first, second or third team honors.
Hill and Lyons were among the league's top hitters, as both were in the top five in batting average and hits for most of the season.
Hill is the seventh Nicholls player in team history to make multiple all-conference lists, the first since Bubba Bell to achieve that feat. Hill finished the regular season third in batting average at .368, while finishing tied for ninth in hits with 68. Since returning to the lineup after sustaining an injury, Hill has registered 53 hits and three home runs. He had the longest hitting streak of his career at 15 games, with 14 multi-hit outings and nine multi-RBI games. Hill is the eighth Nicholls hitter in the last ten years to have an average over .350 for a season.
Lyons had a breakout year starting every game for the Colonels at second base, finishing the season with 71 hits on the year which was sixth best in the conference. The sophomore finished tied for second on the team with 19 multi-hit games, with three four-hit contests on the year which was the most for any Colonel. His 12 game hitting streak during the first half of the season was the longest for any player up until that point, while he reached base in 14 consecutive games during that stretch as well. Lyons was only one of two players this season to drive in five RBI in a game this season, with his best outing coming against UNO where he finished a triple short of the cycle.
