Jordan Piper and tight end
Nick Scelfo – were named All-Louisiana as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association announced its 2012 all-state football teams Tuesday.
Scelfo, a redshirt sophomore out of Baton Rouge, received first-team honors on offense while Piper, a senior from New Orleans, was named second-team defense. Both Scelfo and Piper were also named second-team All-Southland this season.
A second-year starter, Scelfo played a vital role in the Colonel passing offense, which ranked third in the Southland Conference this season at 222.1 yards per game. Scelfo was third on the team in receptions (22) and yards (300), averaging 13.6 yards per catch. On the year, he hauled in two touchdown catches, which was second on the team.
Piper was one of six linebackers to be honored after having the second-highest number of tackles in the state (107), trailing only LSU's Kevin Minter, who was named defensive player of the year. In 11 games, Piper averaged 9.7 tackles per game to lead the Southland and added 1.5 sacks. Piper's 107 tackles was the most by a Colonel since Lee Rogers in 2000 (114).
