WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada - Two weeks after placing 12th in the javelin at the Canadian Senior National Track and Field Championships, Nicholls State University javelin thrower
Jaimee Springer returns to action on Saturday when she attempts to make a run at the 2011 Canadian Junior National Track and Field Championships.
Springer, who recorded a throw of 37.19 m to place 12th at the senior nationals in Calgary, Alberta two weeks ago, heads into Saturday's javelin finals ranked second among all junior Canadians. Springer qualified for the national meet by recording a personal record throw of 44.71 m (146 ft. 8.0 in.) at the Cole Lancoln Twilight meet at UL-Lafayette in April. Springer's throw met the qualifying standard for the Canadian national meet and ranked her second in the javelin among all Canadian juniors. Springer finished just under six feet shy of recording a top-ten finish at the senior national meet.
In addition to being in the running for a junior national championship, Springer can earn a chance to represent Team Canada at the 2011 Junior Pan American Games July 22-25 in Miramar, Florida. The top two finishers in the javelin on Saturday will qualify for a spot in the Pan American Games.
The women's javelin portion of the Canadian Junior National Track and Field Championships is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
