Nicholls Football Hosts Second Annual Football 101 Clinic for Women
THIBODAUX - The Nicholls State University football coaching staff hosted over 100 women on Thursday night at the Century Club for its second annual Football 101 Clinic for Women.
The Colonel coaches provided insight to all the attendees in “four quarters” of presentations, ranging from pregame preparation, equipment and officiating. In the final session, the ladies were able to go out to the field where the coaches explained some basic techniques, while the players demonstrated drills.
Some of the women even participated in activities such as kicking a field goal and catching footballs from the jug machine. The event wrapped up with a tour of the Colonels' meeting room, locker room and weight training facility.
In addition to receiving a playbook, t-shirt, and a diploma, several lucky ladies won door prizes such as an official Nicholls football jersey and an autographed helmet.
The opening quarter consisted of a detailed analysis of a typical gameday. The coaches explained what goes into breaking down film, travel plans and meals. After a presentation from an NCAA official about their preparation and what their duties entail, the equipment staff was on hand to give an exclusive behind the scenes look into the Colonel football program. The women were even treated to a runway show by the players, who showed off their game and practice attire.
